Custom Jewelry Design, By Johan Schutte
Bring pictures, ideas, favourite objects or logos. If you need a starting place, try thinking about hobbies, relationships, favourite images or places… Nothing is too complicated to become a jewellery design.
Anything you can imagine can be made into a completely original piece, unlike anything you’ll find in a store. Created from your idea, your personal style. Pendants, bracelets, pins, earrings, cuff links, a matching set with pieces you choose… Any design, in any metal, with or without stones.
Johan Schutte was trained in Holland in European methods of old world design; hand sketching designs, then carving wax templates by hand. Gold Dust now uses newer technology which includes computer design software, computer driven milling machinery, and 3D printing!
We follow a proven process to create the perfect piece of jewelry designed just for you. The important thing to remember when working with us to make your custom piece of jewelry is that you are every bit as important to the design process as we are; you have just as much to do with the creation of your jewelry as we do.
The first step is to sit down with Johan and create a basic design. This is fun and very creative. Seeing the CAD (computer) image will give you a really good feel for what the final product will look like. We encourage our clients to be brutally honest about what they like and dislike. We have the ability to change virtually anything about the ring at anytime. This is YOUR design; we’re just helping you make it come to life!
The next phase is to carve or 3D print a wax template based on the CAD image. Having a physical model of the custom piece of jewelry is key to creating the most beautiful, as well as the most comfortable, custom piece of jewelry.
After the wax model is approved, following any needed modifications, we perform a lost wax casting. Casting jewelry correctly is an exact science that mastered decades ago, and still performs today with the utmost precision.
Upon completion of the casting process, the jewelry is polished and the stones are set by a master diamond setter. Once the item is polished and stones are set, the newly created custom jewelry has the finishing touches applied.
What emerges as a result is a truly one of a kind, wearable piece of art.
If you can picture it, Johan can make it.
